Hier gibt es Antworten auf viele Fragen. Wenn Ihre nicht beantwortet wird, schreibt an info@teata.at

What does your name mean?

TEATA is a word creation you won’t find in the dictionary. One that sounds like theater, but is simpler and more intuitive to write and which playfully arouses curiosity and confusion — just the way good theater should. TEATA means exactly what one expects — as well as the exact opposite.

Does TAG still exist?

No, TEATA at Gumpendorfer Straße 67 will take TAG’s place. What is currently being created here is a new troupe with a new director and a new orientation, a theater for an even more diverse audience but residing at the same familiar address.

Where will TEATA perform?

Before we move back to our permanent home at Gumpendorfer Straße 67, we will be performing at various venues throughout the city for our first season: at Schauspielhaus, Theater im Werk, Kosmos Theater, and Theater Nestroyhof Hamakom. For a theater that embraces multiple cultures, both intellectually and linguistically, we find this nomadic situation quite fitting.

Why everywhere?

Because a new theater like ours needs time to form — on the one hand as an idea, but on the other hand also as a space, with renovation work and design measures. Until everything is finished, we will be realizing our visions of theater collaboratively at venues where like-minded people keep the larger whole in mind and envision the best works for their audience.

What can I expect from TEATA?

TEATA is drama. For everybody in Vienna’s multifaceted population. TEATA’s program includes contemporary material by writers from Austria and abroad — novels and plays — as well as devised (collaborative) theater productions. The focus here is on new content and current themes relevant to Vienna. TEATA’s productions are bi- or multilingual, but they can always also be understood by audiences with no knowledge of the additional language. In all the productions, the actors on the stage speak at least one other language in addition to German.

What languages do you perform in?

TEATA does its best to do justice to the content of our pieces. And because language is an important part of human expression, we feel it is important to preserve and work with the thematically relevant languages within the original work, both on stage and behind the scenes. In each project, therefore, we develop a specific way of treating multilingualism, depending on how it occurs in that given work.

Will I understand your productions if I only speak German or English?

Yes. Our goal is to reach as many (old and new) theatergoers and target groups as possible. Foreign language passages will be made clear to all language groups — whether through the context itself or in the form of translations.
